What Are Hybrid Seeds?

What Are Hybrid Seeds?

Hybrid seeds are produced by crossing two different plant varieties of the same species to create a new plant with specific, desirable traits. This process is known as controlled pollination, done carefully by agricultural scientists or seed breeders.

The goal? To combine the best qualities of both parent plants — such as higher productivity, disease resistance, improved color or size, and better tolerance to environmental stress.

How Are Hybrid Seeds Made?

Creating hybrid seeds is a natural process done under controlled conditions:

    1. Two parent plants are selected for strong traits.

    1. Pollen from one (male) is transferred to the flower of another (female).

    1. The resulting seed becomes the hybrid.

    1. When planted, it grows with combined strengths.

This is not genetic modification — it’s selective breeding with precision.

On May 7, 2025, India launched a series of precision air and missile strikes under the codename Operation Sindoor, targeting nine locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir. These strikes were in retaliation for a deadly terrorist attack on April 22 in Indian-administered Kashmir, where 26 Indian civilians, including tourists, lost their lives. India attributed the attack to militant groups Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba, alleging they operated with support from across the border.

The Indian government stated that the operation aimed to dismantle terrorist infrastructure and deter future attacks. Targets included areas in Bahawalpur and Muridke, known hubs for the aforementioned militant groups. India reported the elimination of approximately 70 terrorists within 24 hours of the strikes. Pakistan condemned the strikes as an “act of war,” reporting 26 civilian deaths and 46 injuries, including damage to mosques and residential buildings. The Pakistani military claimed to have shot down five Indian aircraft, though India has not confirmed these losses. (Latest news & breaking headlines, New York Post)

In response, Pakistan launched retaliatory artillery fire into Indian-administered Kashmir, resulting in additional civilian casualties. The situation has escalated tensions significantly, threatening the fragile 2021 ceasefire along the Line of Control in the disputed Kashmir region. (New York Post, Latest news & breaking headlines)

International leaders, including the United Nations and U.S. President, have urged restraint and peaceful resolution. The escalating conflict has impacted international air travel, with several airlines rerouting or canceling flights in the region. (New York Post, Financial Times)

The situation remains tense, with both nations on high alert. The international community watches closely, hoping for de-escalation and a return to diplomatic dialogue.
